My daughter’s new favorite toy is on the list so I’m totally bummed! I’m sure she will be to when she finds out I have to take it away. I will have to perform a covert operation in the middle of the night and quietly remove it from her room. Hopefully she won’t notice, but most likely she will. She’s only two, so it would be much harder to explain that she can’t play with her toy because it was made with paint that COULD contain excessive amounts of lead.
Fisher-Price knew they were making the toy for kids, so what’s the deal with the lead paint. Well at least they are taking a pro-active stance in recalling almost a million of toys worldwide.
According to the Alert on abc7.com, “The recall involves 967,000 plastic preschool toys made by a Chinese vendor and sold in the United States between May and August.” The recall includes 83 types of toys and includes popular characters like Big Bird, Dora, Elmo, and Diego.
I’m still checking the list for the rest of the toys but so far the “Dora’s Talking Pony Place” has to go. Did I mention it is her favorite toy? Okay I can admit it; it’s one of my favorite toys too. Did I mention I just bought it less than 2 weeks ago?
Better safe than sorry, right? I’ll be putting in my claim tonight.
Luckily owners of a recalled toy can exchange it for a voucher for another product of the same value. To see the pictures of recalled toys, visit www.service.mattel.com. For additional information you can also call Mattel’s hot line at 800-916-4498.
