I’ve been thinking a lot about the name of my blog, Bizziemommy.com and what kind of blog I want it to be. While it doesn’t necessarily fit in the “mommy blogger” circuit I do blog about my kids and my life as a mom. At the same time I also blog about business, marketing and conduct interviews about other mom entrepreneurs like myself. So does that make it a “business blog”?
Can it be both?
My husband has been “lecturing” me about determining a focus for my blog, often asking where and how do you plan on making money from your blog. He suggests affiliate marketing and other things he’s heard of. He means well, but to be honest I’m still not sure where I’m taking my blog.
To be honest it started out as a fun thing for me to do, a way to channel my creative and writing energy. See pre-baby I wrote screenplays and was even a finalist in a couple of competitions, but after the kids were born I found it challenging to sit down and write. I mean right now I can barely get 10 minutes alone. See scenario below.
As John CREEPS into the bedroom, you can see the hall light reflecting off the knife behind his…
That’s usually as far as I can get.
So this leads me to my question, does the name of your blog establish credibility? What do you think of when you see or hear BizzieMommy.com?
This is what I think my blog is about. It’s about one mother’s transition into entrepreneurship. She’s a digital junkie obsessed with pink accessories. She loves reading and learning about other people’s success and uses it as motivation to keep on her path. She hates to cook but loves to find recipes either online, via the Iphone and can’t wait to try some of the recipe applications on the Nintendo DS. She is on a mission to successfully cook at least 4 meals out of the week (a feat that has yet to be accomplished). She is a lover of photographer and wishes one day to make some money from it even if it just pays off the costs of her equipment (it’s an inherited passion, her father is a photographer). She hopes to empower other moms and/or woman to follow their passions and dreams of entrepreneurship or whatever they may be. She loves to talk about her online store and other adventures and hopes to create an online media/retail empire one day. She is impressed by people like Jennifer of mombloggersclub.com and Allison of blissfullydomestic.com. Lastly bizziemommy.com is about a busy mom trying to balance her dreams, her family, and their health and well-being to lead a better life going forward.
So bizziemommy.com isn’t a “mommy” blog or a “business” blog it’s both with a dash of motivation. Does a combination blog make me less credible when it comes to business tips or advice? Because I talk about business does that mean I can’t talk about being a mom? Does the word “mommy” eliminate my chances of being categorized as an entrepreneur blog? Does a blog have to fit into a defined category in order to be successful?
