Mom Entrepreneur: Emily Daigle
Business: skyoozmee…by M is for mommy
M is for mommy is the inventor, designer, and creator of the skyoozmee – a fantastic new burp cloth designed to make feeding time easier than ever before!
What inspired you start your business?
As a mom of two very “spitty” babies, I strived to design a product that would keep feeding time less messy and stressful. I had sewn some of my own “skyoozmees,” and when friends and family saw what I was using, they encouraged me to market it to other moms, dads and caregivers.
How long have you been in business?
M is for mommy was conceived in August 2006, and the skyoozmee was born to the public in February 2009.
What did you do in your past work life?
Although I am currently out on maternity leave, I still also work as a Revenue Consultant for a public company.
What is your ideal workday like?
Fulfilling orders, responding to e-mails (my favorites are the ones from people telling me how the skyoozmee has helped them so much!) and taking time in the evening to get dinner on the table and spend quality time with the kids!
What have been some of your major successes?
Maintaining a corporate finance position while starting my own business and launching a new product line. The days (and nights) can get a little crazy!
What have been some of your major challenges?
Balancing work and home-life has always been a challenge. I am truly passionate about both, however at the end of the day, work will come and go, but I will always have my family.
On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?
My husband and two kids. I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing without them!
Do you have a motivational quote?
When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece. – John Ruskin
What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
I think it’s extremely important to make time away from work. That time for us is in the evening until the kids go to bed. We eat dinner together, talk about the day, and read books before bedtime. It’s my faorite time of day!
If there was one piece of advice you could give to your children about running a successful business, what would it be?
It’s not easy, and it takes a lot of hard work. What’s important is to stay committed and keep moving forward!
Do you have a favorite business tool and/or resource?
Silly and simple as it sounds…e-mail. Love it!
What is next for your business?
Growth and expansion!
Your two cents sales pitch?
A fantastic new burp cloth designed specially to stay in place and prevent messes and stains on clothes. Moms, dads and caregivers need more functionality without having to sacrifice convenience or style.
The answer is easy…skyoozmee.
