I was disappointed when I starting shooting with the Canon 50D, because I had to switch memory cards from a SD card to compact flash card – which isn’t all that compact in comparison. Not only did I have to go out and buy two new cards but it also meant I couldn’t use my Mobi card. I was hoping they would expand their product line to include the compact flash cards but they never did.
But alas I’ve upgraded to a full frame Canon 6D, which means I’m now back to using SD cards. So I was more than thrilled when I was asked to review the Mobi + Wifi SD card.
My favorite three ways to use the Mobi + Wifi card
When I’m cooking I love to take pictures along the way, especially when it’s a new recipe I haven’t tried. I always try and capture new recipes so I can post them on the blog, but never seem to get around to it. One day, one day I will! When that time comes I will at the very least have some pictures for it. I usually sync up my ipad so I can check out the pictures on the larger screen while shooting.
Mobi Tip: Be sure to make sure you have your camera set to RAW + JPG otherwise the card will not work
My daughter is a dancer and loves getting her picture taken. Which is great for me because I LOVE taking pictures of her and I love taking pictures of dances. The problem comes when she breaks a pose to come check out the pictures. Now I prop up the iPad so she can see how the pose came out in almost real time.
My family hasn’t taken a portrait together in years, which is sad I know. But I bet the WiFi card would make picture taken so much easier. Who knows maybe I’ll attempt a family Holiday card this year. Prop the camera on a tripod and take pictures in front of the Christmas tree or maybe outside in the snow, if it snows again in the next couple of days.
How Does it Work?
The mobi works just as any other SD card, you slip it into your computer and start shooting. What makes it so unique is that Mobi allows you to instantly deliver your best photos & videos from your camera to your smart phone or tablet. No wireless network is required, as Mobi creates its own WiFi so it works anywhere you are.
Ease of Use
The WiFi mobi card is easy to set up once you have the card open, download the Eye-fi mobile app and follow the prompts to activate your card. Then you are ready instantly deliver your images to your phone or tablet.
The Eye-fi Mobi card is available in four different sizes: Mobi 8GB ($49.99), Mobi 16GB ($79.99), Mobi 32GB ($99.99) and Mobi Pro X2 15GB ($99.99).
