Designing a photography portfolio with Headway
There are plenty of wordpress photography templates out there to choose from, the problem is you will always find someone else using it, so why not create your own.
There is one major flaw with being a web designer/developer, you always want to make changes to websites whether it be your own or someone else’s. It’s like a nagging tick. Another major flaw with being a web designer/developer is that sometimes you are too busy or too much of a perfectionist you never really complete a design. Because the fact is by the time you complete all the elements of one design your creative brain has shifted to something else. It really is uncontrollable.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve changed this blog, BizzieLiving.com (I just changed it this evening), even when it was BizzieMommy.com. Changing a sites design comes just as natural as changing your wardrobe for the season.
Then there is the uncontrollable desire to start up new websites, I’ve purchased so many domain names and launched so many sites than I can count on both hands. After several years of trying to juggle them ALL, I decided it was time to go minimalist on my website endeavors. Now I have two sites to manage, Bizzie living and Bizzie Photography.
I decided to develop Bizzie Photography with the Headway theme, I wanted a clean, simple and easy to manage website. I’m still very old school when it comes to development as I hand code my CSS, but the great thing about Headway is you don’t have to. In fact, you can build a website without having a deep background in HTML code.
The first step to designing your own portfolio website with Headway is to purchase and install the theme. You can find more information about the theme at headwaythemes.com.
Because I was looking for a design that didn’t look and feel like a typical portfolio site I also purchased some Headway blocks for this site.
Headway Block: Pin Board
Instead of using a gallery format I opted for the Pinterest look so I can quickly get photos on the site and visitors can see a good variety of my work.
Headway Contact Block
This is a great contact form, you can even customize it with a map of your location.
Headway Testimonials Block
I love how this makes it easy to share client testimonials.
Headway Block: Facebook
This block let’s people comment via Facebook.
